A BIG “Thank You” to the 1,846 volunteers in Sydney and Brisbane who were involved in Servolution 2010 and volunteered their time in the lead up to Easter to help others. From Fri 26th Mar to Thu 1st Apr, Hillsong Church was involved in 121 projects providing practical acts of kindness and generosity to 2,295 people in our communities in Sydney and Brisbane. Your generosity, time and effort made a BIG difference in many lives.
Servolution 2010 is about churches from all over the world coming together to express the LOVE of Christ to the people in their communities through SIMPLE acts of KINDNESS and GENEROSITY in the days leading up to the Easter Weekend 2010.
We had multiple response teams go out and be of assistance to many isolated and disadvantaged communities. Here are some of the great things you were a part of:
- As a part of NSW Senior Citizens Week, teams of people visited local nursing homes, and hosted parties to honor and celebrate these great lives. Residents were singing along and were so happy to see us. During these parties, a beautiful man asked for prayer as he wanted to connect with God.
- To honour the work of those in our emergency services, particularly paramedics & police officers, we delivered home cooked meals, desserts or coffees to our local emergency services in recognition of the critical work they do in our community.
- We blessed many of our local university students by providing free pancakes on campus at local universities
- A professional chef catered a beautiful and yummy meal to the homeless of Sydney.
- Through our justice projects, we helped renovate and makeover a men’s hostel, a home of a family doing it tough, two local schools and a shopping centre.
- We set up a photography studio to take family portraits for newly arrived refugee families who had lost everything. Professional photographers and make-up artists gave up their time to bless these families. The families loved & appreciated that they could have a beautiful portrait of their family.
- A great Frontline team hosted a baby shower for a family in need and had the privilege of celebrating with them this wonderful season of the arrival of their newborn baby.
- Street Teams Community BBQ’s were a massive hit with 13 BBQ’s happening around Sydney & Brisbane. Activities the community got involved in included face painting, games, music, family portraits, Easter egg hunts and pampering. We made some great connections with families and community leaders in the community.
Food hampers were created and delivered to people in need in Sydney and Brisbane.- ‘Cure Our Kids’ delivers a range of support services to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and their families. We had Sisterhood volunteers visit children & families in Westmead Children’s Hospital through our partnership with ‘Cure Our Kids’. This week our volunteers have had the privilege of making jewellery with these kids and also providing hospitality to their parents.
- We were able to feed many young people at a local Youth Centre. They hold a weekly drop-in on Fridays and having us there was a bonus as we were able to feed local youth that live in the area. They have asked us back to help out with school holiday activities.
- Women in refuges were valued, pamper packs were delivered to women facing challenges in our local area and children were encouraged as they practiced their reading skills.
- In partnership with other organisations, hygiene packs were collected along with beautiful hand-written cards, which were given out to other service providers.
- We provided extra helping hands to a local Mobile Food Van & their volunteers who provide breakfast and dinner to the homeless in the greater west of Sydney. We had a great time chatting with everyone and making them feel welcome.
- We visited 49 Public Housing Units for Pensioners with Easter gifts. They were very appreciative of our visit and one person’s response to our visit was “You must have known I was having a bad day”.
Through Servolution, we partnered with various organizations such as Westmead Children’s Hospital, Cure our Kids, Wesley Mission, Salvation Army, Department of Housing, City of Sydney Council, Mission Beat, St Vincent de Paul, Mission Australia, Ronald McDonald House, Christ Mission Possible, Macquarie Community College, Paramedics, Police, local primary schools and high schools, nursing homes, women’s refuges and local youth centres.
